After hiding $200,000 in assets from a bankruptcy court and giving former Gov. John Rowland cigars and champagne in exchange for state contracts, federal prosecutors say Simsbury electrical contractor Kurt Claywell should receive the maximum 5-year sentence, according to a report by the Associated Press.
Claywell will be sentenced Jan. 2 for conspiracy to commit bankruptcy fraud. Authorities say he concealed cash, land, books and a wine collection he had recently divested, from a bankruptcy court during a voluntary bankruptcy filing in 2005.
Claywell, who also faces restitution, is serving a 66-month federal prison sentence for various tax and mail fraud violations. He was also convicted of fourth-degree sexual assault and accessory to bribing a witness.
