The federal government has announced a continued-assistance grant of more than $400,000 for more than 300 workers impacted by the 2011 closing of Evergreen Solar in Devens and Marlborough, as well as two of the company’ staffing firms.
The Labor Department grant of $408,043 will allow the workers to receive training and re-employment services, said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis.
A grant of $738,179 was awarded to the Massachusetts Department of Workforce Development in January 2012, with $329,776 initially released. The latest funding will continue to provide assistance to about 320 of the 825 workers affected by the closure, in conjunction with services they’re receiving as a result of their eligibility for Trade Adjustment Assistance benefits.
Evergreen filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2011 after it faced financial difficulties from Chinese competition.
Anyone seeking more information about the grant is asked to visit the agency’s website, at www.doleta.gov/NEG.
