The North Central and Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Boards will receive $534,154 as part of the state’s $3.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor, according to a statement Friday from the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board.
Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) and the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP) will serve as training partners. MWCC will offer its new Industrial Readiness and Quality Control training program, and MassMEP will offer its CNC (computer numerical control) operator training.
The goal of the two-year grant is to train 80 eligible unemployed individuals in advanced manufacturing skills to meet the local industry demand, according to the statement. The funds come from the Labor Department’s Sector Partnership National Emergency Grant program.
The two workforce boards also recently received $1.14 million from a U.S. Department of Labor Disability Employment Initiative, the statement said. These grants will provide training funds and support for eligible individuals with disabilities interested in full-time employment. The North Central Workforce Board received $640,000 and will offer training in health care, manufacturing, hospitality and finance. The Central Massachusetts Workforce Board received $500,000 and will offer training for careers in human services, health care and customer service.
