Massachusetts has landed $47 million, including $39 million for Worcester, in federal funding to purchase electric hybrid public buses.
The funding, grants from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s State of Good Repair program, was announced by U.S. Sen. John Kerry and U.S. Reps. Jim McGovern and John Olver.
The money will be used to buy new buses and to build new bus maintenance facilities. The grants will go directly to the state’s regional transit authorities.
In addition to the Worcester RTA‘s $39 million, the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority will receive $6.2 million; the Montachusett RTA will receive $980,000 for facility repairs and $520,000 to purchase new buses.
