February A Historically Slow Month For Home Sales

Thanks to some brutal weather, single-family home sales in Massachusetts were at their lowest level for the month of February since tracking by the Boston-based Warren Group began in 1987.

Just 1,746 single-family homes were sold in the Bay State last month, down 15.7 percent from more than 2,000 sales in February 2010.

Median prices also fell, dropping 5.5 percent to $255,000. The year-to-date median home price was down more than 6 percent to $263,000.

In Worcester, the number of single-family home sales fell by 22 percent, while the median price fell nearly 20 percent to just under $150,000.
