Family Health Center takes oversight of homeless program

The Family Health Center of Worcester has taken over oversight of a homeless care program on Chandler Street that was long administered by Community Healthlink.

The Family Health Center said Thursday it now runs the Homeless Outreach and Advocacy Program, which provides comprehensive medical and behavioral health care for adults who are homeless or living in temporary housing. The agency is now the designated administrator for federal funding supporting the services.

Lou Brady, the Family Health Center’s president and CEO, said the agency plans to expand services to include health benefits enrollment, dental and vision care, pharmacy and specialized dermatology screenings.

The homeless care program at 162 Chandler St. is located about a block away from where both the Family Health Center and Community Healthlink are based on either side of Jaques Avenue. Both agencies have worked together since 1998 to provide care for the homeless, and were joined in more recent years in the collaboration by the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center.

The Family Health Center has long offered a homeless healthcare program at 26 Queen St.
