Fallon Health on Monday became the first Worcester company to announce a sponsorship deal with the Worcester Red Sox.
The healthcare insurer did not disclose financial details of the agreement, but the company referred to itself as a founding sponsor in the team, which is slated to move from Pawtucket, R.I., to Worcester in time for the 2021 season.
"Fallon Health has been committed to the Worcester community for over 40 years," Richard Burke, the president and CEO of Fallon Health, said in a statement.
"As a founding sponsor of the Worcester Red Sox, we are excited to welcome our newest neighbor to the community. We look forward to how this new partnership will positively impact Worcester for years to come," he said. "We also hope to partner with the team to promote the health benefits of sport and participate in events that will benefit our community."
Charles Steinberg, the team president, said in a statement the team's reception by community institutions in Greater Worcester is one of many ways the team has been welcomed to its future home.
Fallon joins Polar Beverages as the first Worcester companies to associate their names with the team. Polar is slated to buy the naming rights for the city-owned ballpark, to be called Polar Park. That pending deal, for which financial details have not been detailed, was announced last month as a surprise addition to the unveiling of a letter of intent between Worcester and the team.
The Sox said Monday they've been in talks with several other companies that have yet to make announcements of their deals.
