Fallon Community Health Plan (FCHP) has issued two awards of $5,000 each to area programs designed to fight childhood obesity.
$5,000 was awarded to the Youth Be Fit! program of Malden Family Health Center. The program allows the Center to work with local schools and the Malden YMCA to prevent and treat childhood obesity through a multi-disciplinary approach. Youth involved with the program can choose from a variety of activities, including kayaking, indoor soccer, and martial arts.
The second $5,000 award was given to the H.E.L.P. (Healthy Eating Lifestyles Plan) at Westford-based Pediatrics West, P.C. The program works to educate parents on how to maintain healthy weight for their children through a child's growth period. The grant will be used to assist Pediatrics West in providing those services for patients who cannot afford nutrition or fitness components of the H.E.L.P. program.
FCHP is a provider of health care services, and is based in Worcester.
