Fallon Clinic in Worcester has been selected for the Gold Key Award by Junior Achievement of Central Massachusetts, recognized for “Implementing Extraordinary Volunteer Recruitment Programs.”
Fallon implemented a program through the Goddard Elementary School of Science and Technology, allowing low-income Worcester Public School students to team up with physician and executive-level volunteers during the 2006-2007 school year. Additionally, the partnership between Junior Achievement and the Goddard School provided a grant and a computer lab.
The students are taught basic business concepts in the program, as well as learning about the value of staying in school. “This is an unusual effort for a first year partnership,” said Deb Hopkins, executive director of Junior Achievement. “The caliber and commitment of Fallon Clinic’s volunteer teaching team is outstanding.”
