Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester, a collaborative initiative between the city’s UMass Memorial Health and Alabama-headquartered Encompass Health, has named its new chief nursing officer, promoting employee Samantha Gauvin to the C-suite, effective Monday.
Gauvin originally joined Fairlawn as a registered nurse and comes to her new appointment having most recently served as the hospital’s director of quality and risk, according to a Monday LinkedIn post by CEO Peter Lancette.
“The healthcare landscape is continuously evolving, and I am confident Sam will continue to seek and develop best practices with collaboration of the Fairlawn Team while navigating through competing priorities,” Lancette said in the post.
As CNO, Gauvin will focus on developing best practices, assessing and identifying care gaps, and implementing new initiatives to ensure high quality care.
Gauvin succeeds Cathy Butenewicz who held the CNO position since June 2021, according to her LinkedIn profile. Butenewicz has transitioned to her new role as associate administrator within Encompass’ Developing Future CEO program in York, Pennsylvania, as the organization plans to open a new hospital closer to Butenewicz’s family.
“Cathy’s instrumental role in her succession plan has ensured a smooth transition for Fairlawn during this period. I am confident that Cathy’s extensive experience at Fairlawn has equipped her for continued success, a testament to the exceptional team we have cultivated,” Lancette said.
Gauvin earned her master’s degree from Aspen University in Phoenix, Arizona and her associate degree from the New England Institute of Technology in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, according to her LinkedIn profile.
