Falling prices and demand pushed shipments from American factories down 5.3 percent to $393.8 billion in November, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
New orders for goods manufactured in the United States fell 4.6 percent to $384.6 billion during the same period.
The decrease in shipments was the fourth consecutive month of decline. New orders fell by 6 percent in October. Orders of nondurable goods decreased a record 7.4 percent during the month as petroleum refineries saw a 22 percent decrease in shipments.
Orders for capital equipment increased by 3.9 percent during the month.
