Explosion destroys Danbury propane company building

An explosion ripped apart a propane gas company's building in Danbury, but no injuries are being reported.

Fire officials say they got a call at about midnight for a fire at the Hocon Industrial Gas Company on Payne Road.

Authorities say the explosion sent debris flying 75 to 100 feet and completely destroyed everything in the building except the metal framework.

The fire is under control and the fire marshal is investigating the cause.

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Omasta says it appears a gas leak in the building caused the explosion. He says firefighters were concerned about gas containers blowing up when they arrived, but all the containers appear to have been destroyed by the fire.
