Evelyn Darling, executive director of the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District, has stepped down from the role, as the organization has tapped a consulting firm to help find its next leader.

Darling announced her resignation in an email to BID stakeholders on Wednesday. She had led the organization since April 2019.

“Seeing the growth and transformation of our neighborhood has been incredibly rewarding and I am deeply grateful for your trust and partnership over the past five years,” Darling wrote. “As many of you may already know, I recently made the difficult and personal decision to step down as executive director of the BID. Now, we are looking toward the future and hiring the organization’s new leader to take the BID into its next, exciting phase.”

The BID has tasked Community Paradigm Associates, a Plymouth-based consulting firm focused on nonprofit and government clients, with helping find its next leader. The application deadline for the role is Oct. 28.

The BID was formed in 2018 with the intent of providing property owners in a roughly 75-acre area surrounding Worcester Common with a mechanism to manage and finance supplemental services for the area. Services provided by the BID include beautification efforts, cleaning services, and policy advocacy.

In October, the BID’s mandate was extended for five years
