Ex-World Energy employees launch energy efficiency business in Worcester

Former World Energy Solutions employees Rick Galipeau and Mike Santangelo today announced the launch of a new company, World Energy Efficiency Services, headquartered in Worcester.

The two principals were instrumental in forming Northeast Energy Solutions in 2010, which was purchased by World Energy Solutions of Worcester a year later. The new company —which purchased assets from World Energy Solutions — raised capital from Commerce Bank and the Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp. to help fund startup costs. World Energy Solutions was acquired by EnerNOC of Boston at the start of this year.

World Energy Efficiency Services is headquartered at 24 Rockdale St., a site secured in partnership with the Worcester Chamber of Commerce, the company said in the release. It is also operating a satellite office in Cromwell, Conn.

Galipeau will serve as the new company’s president, and Santangelo as vice president.

World Energy Efficiency Services, with 21 full-time employees, aims to help New England businesses, institutions and municipalities reduce their energy usage and costs.

“Having grown our energy efficiency services business from a startup to a regional leader in five years, we feel we have only scratched the surface of the energy efficiency opportunity here in New England,” Santangelo said.

The company said it will offer comprehensive energy conservation measures, including lighting, energy management systems (EMS), HVAC, retro-commissioning and the installation of variable frequency drives (VFD). It also provides energy efficiency services in several utility programs in the Eversource Massachusetts and Connecticut portfolio: NSTAR’s Direct Install Program for small businesses; NSTAR’s Municipal Program for government entities; WMECO’s program for small commercial and industrials; and the Small Business Energy Advantage (SBEA) Program for Connecticut Light & Power. In addition, World Energy Efficiency Services provides services for the SBEA Program for the United Illuminating Company.
