New England utility company Eversource has purchased three parcels in an Auburn business park for just over $9 million.
According to Auburn property records, two of the parcels, totaling about 11 acres of vacant land, were purchased for just over $1 million, while a third is a 65,000-square-foot warehouse and distributing facility on 7.3 acres previously occupied by FedEx.
Eversource closed on the three properties Friday via Rock River Realty Co., the company’s non-utility real estate entity. A company spokesperson said the purchase was made for a future work center, but no further details were immediately provided.
Auburn town officials did not immediately comment on what Eversource plans to do with the land.
In Central Massachusetts, Eversource largely only offers natural gas services. A handful of towns in the MetroWest region have access to both gas and electric.
