Erland Construction has been awarded the contract for the $18-million expansion of the American Antiquarian Society that will give the Worcester-staple a new face as well as expanded conservation space.
The three-story, 7,000-square-foot addition will house a conservation lab as well as a new climate-control system to ensure the preservation of the society’s collection. Erland will work with New York architect, Samuel Anderson Architects, and project manager, Pinck & Co. of Roxbury.
In addition to the expansion, the team will overhaul the current HVAC system and construct a new mechanical room that will service the entire building. Onsite work will begin in 2017, according to Erland.
Erland Construction is headquartered in Burlington.
