When it comes to entrepreneurship, nature – not nurture – spells success, according to a new survey.by Northeastern University.
Sixty-two percent of the 200 entrepreneurs surveyed said “innate drive” was the chief motivator behind their launching a business. Work experience (21 percent) and watching the entrepreneurial success of peers (16 percent) were also strong motivators for survey takers business pursuits.
The survey was conducted by a newly launched school at Northeastern for “technological entrepreneurship.” Only one percent of entrepreneurs cited higher education as their motivator to launch a business.
The school interprets those results to mean higher education does a poor job of preparing students to become entrepreneurs.
