Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. announced it will open an energy-efficient store in Wayland at 6 a.m. on Nov. 16, marking the Quincy-based grocer's entrance into the Wayland-Sudbury area.
The 45,000 square-foot store, located at 400 Boston Post Rd., is expected to use 20-percent less energy than a typical grocery store, according to the company. Energy-efficient features include complementary electric car-charging stations, roof-top solar panels, and LED parking lot lights.
"We feel confident that with the store's energy-efficient features and full complement of services, the new Wayland Stop & Shop will serve the region well," said Joe Kelley, president of Stop & Shop's New England Division.
Regular store hours will be 6 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Saturday, and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. The store will employ approximately 135, the company said.
Other area supermarkets include Donelan's Supermarket and Whole Foods Market in Wayland, and Shaw's Supermarket and Sudbury Farms in Sudbury.
