Employee Confidence Up In May

Staffing company Spherion Corp.'s Employee Confidence Index rose in May for the third month in a row, hitting 48.3.

The percentage of employees who think the economy is getting weaker dropped dramatically, to 28 percent from 46 percent in April. Twenty percent of those in the recent survey believe the economy is getting stronger, up from 16 percent.

When it comes to their own employment situation, the percent of workers who are confident about their employers' futures dropped slightly, to 63 percent from 65 percent in April. Forty-two percent were confident in their ability to find a new job, up 4 percent from the previous month.
