Q. How are you settling in at your new office?
A. I've acclimated to my new environment very well. I find the company to be innovative and progressive in terms of cutting edge design. I'm quite passionate in regards to staying current and ahead of trends, and this is precisely where I want to be at this stage of my career.
Q. What's the biggest surprise you've had in starting the job?
A. I was pleasantly surprised to find that my associates are an extraordinary group of professionals! In my experience, I have found that nothing can foster a strong work ethic better than the support and camaraderie of a dynamic team.
Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?
A. Right now designers face the challenge of breaking through to new mediums and discovering alternative platforms of communication. The paramount challenge of 2009 is to push the envelope in design and do so in an eco-friendly manner.
Q. How different is this job from your previous position?
A. Being a college professor was a wonderful experience. QCC has an excellent program for aspiring designers. The curriculum is a fusion of traditional art fundamentals incorporated with cutting edge technology. One of the biggest challenges was inspiring students to value their ideas. I'm a firm believer that knowledge is empowering. I was lucky to build strong relationships with my students and I look forward to perhaps returning to academia sometime in my future.
Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
A. My creative talents have always been at the forefront of my endeavors. I was drawn into this field as a communications student, studying advertising, marketing and PR at Emerson College. It was then I discovered my passion for design and realized I wanted to pursue that avenue as a career rather than a hobby.
Q. Where's the best place to get lunch near your new office?
A. A hidden gem is the Hisa Restaurant in downtown Westborough. Japanese cuisine is a healthy alternative for lunch, plus a pot of green tea is a relaxing way to break from a hectic work schedule!
Q. What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
A. In 10 years from now, I hope to play an active role within my community both as a mother and as an advocate for those who are unable to have a voice.
