Hopkinton-based data storage firm EMC Corp. has come to an agreement to buy Isilon Systems Inc. for about $2.25 billion.
The boards of directors of both companies have approved the deal, which is expected to close by the end of the year. EMC said it will pay $33.85 per share for Isilon.
Seattle-based Isilon is also a data storage firm.
EMC said the acquisition will help the company manage the vast amounts of data it will accumulate for its customers in the coming years.
