Hopkinton data storage firm EMC on Monday announced it has been selected by NBC Olympics to support media covering the Rio de Janeiro Olympics this August, becoming the event's official data storage provider.
The deal -- with undisclosed financial terms -- with EMC will have NBC Olympics making use of EMC’s company’s digital storage to deliver high-resolution images and uncompressed files to its live television and online broadcasts of the 2016 Summer Olympics, according to a release from EMC. The architecture of the products allows use across different continents.
Two 560-terabyte EMC Isilon NL 400 clusters will be located onsite in Rio, allowing easy access for on-air broadcasting and online posting. These two clusters will also be used on site for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea.
New York City information-technology provider Presidio will be used by NBC for engineering support and services for the design, implementation, delivery and ongoing support for the EMC systems.
