Worldwide factory revenues from the
sales of external computer disk storage systems rose 10.8 percent during the
first quarter, compared to the same time last year, according to IDC of
Framingham.
Worldwide sales of external computer
disk storage systems totaled $4.9 billion, according to IDC’s Worldwide Disk
Storage Systems Quarterly Tracker report. IDC is a market research company.
In the first quarter of 2008, EMC Corp.
of Hopkinton was the leader in external disk storage systems, the open storage-attached
network and the total network storage market, with 21.4 percent, 23.6 percent
and 14.9 percent revenue shares, respectively.
Other leaders in computer disk storage
systems included Hewlett-Packard Co., IBM Corp., Dell Inc., NetApp Inc. and Hitachi
Ltd.
