Hopkinton-based EMC Corp. has acquired Aveksa Inc., a Waltham identity and access management software firm.
The privately-held Aveska will operate within EMC's security division effectively immediately, according to a statement by EMC. Aveska's software products will be added to the division's Identity Trust Management product group, adding technology and expertise to aid with the development of secure cloud and mobile access management solutions, EMC said.
"Without the deep intelligence able to provide insight into what users should and should not have access to, traditional tools that simply automate (identity and access management) leave organizations exposed to the risk of excessive privilege, data breaches and regulatory non-compliance," said Art Coviello, executive chairman and vice president of EMC's security division, adding that EMC and Aveksa see "tremendous opportunity" to help customers deal with those risks.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, and EMC said the acquisition is not expected to have material impact to the company during its fiscal 2013 year.
