EMBAs Without The Free Lunch

With fewer corporations paying their head honchos to get executive MBAs, more ambitious managers are choosing to pay their own way these days.

The QS Top ExecEd Guide, which offers advice for business people seeking MBAs, says the rise in "self-funded, self-inspired entrepreneurial EMBA candidates" is partly a result of recession-time cutbacks by employers and partly a trend that began even before the economic downturn.

More leaders from small and mid-sized businesses are seeking the degrees, which they can pursue without leaving their current positions. The guide says that can be a good thing for both employees and companies, as students use their real-world experience in class and bring new ideas back to the office.
