Electro Energy wins $5M contract for military aircraft batteries

Danbury-based Electro Energy has been awarded a $5 million contract from the U.S. Defense Logistic Agency to manufacture batteries for the U.S. Army Kiowa helicopter.

Electro Energy, a provider of battery technologies, has been contracted to provide nickel cadmium batteries and heater blanket assemblies for the entire helicopter fleet. The batteries will be produced at the company's Colorado Springs facility.

"The Company has a long history of providing batteries and related systems to the U.S. Armed Services for a variety of applications," Michael E. Reed, president and CEO of Electro Energy, said in a statement. "This contract exemplifies Electro Energy's capabilities in providing battery technology for military applications, which require highly durable and reliable batteries to meet the most demanding mission critical and battlefield requirements."
