Eight Central Mass. locations to split $5.7M in energy-storage funds

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources has provided grants to eight energy-storage facilities in Central Massachusetts through its Energy Storage Initiative, among $20 million in funds announced Thursday.

The facilities are in Ashburnham, Clinton, Leicester, Leominster, Lunenburg, Marlborough, Shirley and West Boylston.

The Baker Administration said all the grants statewide will help the projects earn $32 million in matching grants.

The Central Massachusetts projects were:

– NuGen Capital, Lunenberg, $1,225,000

– National Grid, Shirley, $875,000

– UMass Memorial – Marlborough Hospital, Marlborough, $686,000

– Advanced Microgrid Solutions, with a location in Leicester, $645,000

– Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric, Ashburnham, $600,000

– Greenlots, with locations in Clinton and Leominster, $439,000

– West Boylston Municipal Light Plant, West Boylston, $243,000

Hopkinton-based Solect Energy received $1 million for a research center in Lexington. Solect announced a new energy storage division last month in a partnership with NEC Energy Solutions of Westborough.
