Richard Kennedy, the president of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, recently announced he will retire at the end of next year.
His departure will close the door on a lengthy career in business in the region. Kennedy was key in stabilizing the once-struggling organization, leading it with a steady hand through the economic turbulence of the last few years, and was a top advocate in the business community’s push to ease the property tax burden on city businesses.
The Worcester City Council has slowly come around to see the wisdom of that approach, and moved to narrow the gap between its dual tax rates over the last two years.
