The EcoTarium in Worcester announced it will use a $244,290 grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund (CFF) to connect to the electrical grid, reducing reliance on its aging power plant.
The EcoTarium announced the funding Friday, saying it is the largest CFF grant issued to a Central Massachusetts organization. According to a statement, connecting to the electrical grid will ensure energy continuity at the 41-year-old facility on Harrington Way, and improve safety for visitors and wildlife.
“The Cultural Facilities Grant represents an investment to an organization that has inspired passion for science and nature in visitors since 1825,” EcoTarium President Joseph P. Cox said in a statement.
Other Central Massachusetts cultural organizations to receive CFF funding for capital improvements include the American Antiquarian Society, Worcester Art Museum and Worcester Cable Access in Worcester, the First Parish Meeting House Preservation Society of Shirley, the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, and the Town of Royalston.
