The Worcester science museum EcoTarium is planning for what it termed an extended closure through fall and winter, the museum announced in a press release on Friday, citing a 90% attendance drop due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The museum will reduce its staffing by an undetermined number.
“While the pandemic is requiring us to make significant changes, we understand how difficult navigating this uncertainty has been for our dedicated staff,” said board Chair Paul Belsito, in a statement. “We respect and appreciate their commitment to this institution, and we will need their continued support as we face this rough road together.”
EcoTarium leadership took pay cuts earlier this year, according to the press release.
The EcoTarium’s animals will remain on-site and cared for, per the release.
