The EcoTarium nature and science museum in Worcester will unveil a new long-awaited outdoor exhibit Saturday featuring two mountain lion siblings.

Construction on the $3.8-million exhibit within a 44,000-square-foot space -- dubbed Wild Cat Station -- began about a year ago in the museum’s former polar bear habitat, which had been empty for more than six years.

According to the EcoTarium’s website, the exhibit is one of the largest mountain lion exhibits in the U.S. at 18,500 square feet.

The exhibit completes the final project of the second phase of the EcoTarium’s $8.8-million Third Century Plan, the museum said.

On Friday, the museum is inviting several Worcester officials and business leaders, including Hanover Insurance Group CEO Jack Roche, Worcester City Councilor Candy Mero-Carlson, Massachusetts Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton, Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism Director Keiko Orall and other officials, donors and trustees.

It will open to the public Saturday.
