EB gets $29M contract

Groton-based General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a $28.9 million contract from the U.S. Navy to complete maintenance on the USS Texas. The contract, a modification of an earlier contract, includes maintenance, repairs, testing and alteration work to the submarine. The job will involve more than 500 employees and is set for completion in February. The contract’s total potential value could reach $85 million, depending on the work done. The USS Texas is the second in the Virginia Class of submarines, which are designed specifically for post-Cold War missions. Electric Boat, along with construction partner Northrop Grumman Newport News, have received contracts to build 10 of the submarines.
