Morgan Construction in Worcester will provide high-speed mill equipment to Ovako Wire b.v., a wire rod mill based in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands.
Under the terms of the multi-million dollar contract, Morgan Construction will provide a reducing resizing mill, two shears with an uplooper, five housingless stands and eight gear boxes, all designed to increase the speed of the mill's roll rate to 100 meters per second. The new equipment will also allow the mill to increase its billet size from 125mm to 160mm.
Delivery of the equipment is slated for late summer of 2007. Morgan has had a long-standing relationship with the company and its predecessor company, Fundia Steel Management Services SL. The mill's existing No-Twist Mill was originally installed by Morgan in 1964.
"This new layout for Ovako offers them far greater flexibility," said Mike McCaffrey, project manager for Morgan. "With a wider variety of billet sizes to process, they can broaden their product range to meet customer demand."
