New orders for manufactured durable goods increased $2.9 billion or 1.3 percent to $219.3 billion in July, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
July’s increase was the third consecutive monthly increase and followed a 1.3 percent June increase. Excluding orders for transportation-related products, new orders increased 0.7 percent. Excluding orders for defense products, new orders increased 2.8 percent.
Long-lasting manufactured products like computers, electronics, automobiles and airplanes are considered durable goods.
