New orders for American-made manufactured durable goods increased by 0.8 percent to $207.8 billion in September after a 5.5 percent decrease in August, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The September increase is the fourth in the last five months and was made possible by demand for transportation-related goods and defense equipment. Without transportation, new orders decreased by 1.1 percent. Excluding defense, new orders decreased by 0.6 percent.
