A former tire center on Southbridge Street in Worcester is being developed into a new Dunkin' coffee shop and Gulf gas station.
The Dunkin' will be the latest franchise location by Worcester businessman Robert Branca, a large franchisee for the company. It will be one of Dunkin's new-generation stores, which have a more modern design and include a draft pouring system for iced coffee, cold brew and iced teas, and a display counter putting doughnuts much closer to customers.
A limited liability corporation for which Branca is a manager bought the 0.9-acre site in June 2018 for $875,000.
The former J&J Tire Center site at 590 Southbridge St. is a block south of Southbridge Place, a retail plaza with a Price Rite, Dollar Tree and other retailers.
The Worcester Planning Board approved the new development in 2018. Dunkin' already has more than a dozen locations in Worcester, while Gulf has five gas stations in the city.
