Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has named Andrew Dreyfus president and CEO.
Effective Sept. 7, Dreyfus replaces Bill Van Faasen, who has been serving as head of the insurer in an unpaid interim role since March. The company said Faasen will remain involved in a role still to be determined.
Dreyfus previously served for five years as BCBSMA's executive vice president for health-care services. His areas of responsibility included payment, contracting, performance measurement and improvement, and wellness and disease management programs.
In 2001, Dreyfus also became the first president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, which works to expand access to health care for Massachusetts residents. The foundation was involved in the creation of the state's 2006 health reform law.
Before joining BCBSMA, Dreyfus held leadership positions at the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Massachusetts Executive Office of Human Services and the Executive Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation.
