Dressbarn closure will leave seven Central Mass. stores empty

Dressbarn's decision to go out of business will add the women's clothing chain to a list of recent closures at Northborough Crossing that also includes Toys "R" Us, Eastern Mountain Sports and others.
Women's clothing chain Dressbarn is the latest brick-and-mortar retail casualty, and the company's seven Central Massachusetts locations will add to the latest storefronts to close across the area.
Dressbarn's New Jersey parent company, Ascena Retail Group, said late Monday it will close down the chain to benefit its other brands, which include Ann Taylor, Lane Bryant, Catherines, and Cacique.
Dressbarn has stores in Franklin, Hudson, Leominster, Natick, Northborough, Shrewsbury and Sturbridge.
The impending closure will be the latest coming-and-going for Northborough Crossing, which has lost Toys "R" Us, Goldsmith and Eastern Mountain Sports but added a Pottery Barn, Homesense, Old Navy and a Saint Vincent Medical Group outpatient medical care office.
Other closures have hit other Central Massachusetts malls.
Gymboree's closure led to stores being shuttered at the Auburn Mall, the Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough, Natick Mall and Brookside Shops in Acton. Clothing chain Charlotte Russe has closed stores at the Natick Mall, Solomon Pond Mall and Auburn Mall.
The Natick Mall has also recently lost Sears, American Girl and Brookstone.
Footwear discounter Payless ShoeSource is also leaving eight Central Massachusetts locations dark: in Webster Square in Worcester, at the Auburn Mall, the Solomon Pond Mall, the Mall at Whitney Field and Twin City Plaza in Leominster, Natick Mall, at 400 Cochituate Road in Framingham, and Milford Plaza.
