American Pro-Wind LLC of Weymouth has been awarded a $178,000 loan to continue development of a 26-megawatt wind farm in Douglas that will include up to a dozen turbines.
The loan, from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center's Renewable Energy Trust Fund, is on top of another $72,000 loan the state made to American Pro-Wind in July 2009. The project is proposed to be sited on 275 acres in Douglas.
The new money will be used to further study the area and wind speeds, as well as to create power purchase agreements and conduct electrical engineering, according to a release from the office of State Rep. Paul Kujawski, D-Webster, who represents the Douglas area.
The state already has more than 15 megawatts of wind power installed, enough to power 6,000 homes, but dozens more projects are in the works, according to Kujawski.
