August sales at Westborough-based BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. rose 14.9 percent to $901.6 million over the same month last year.
Comparable store sales for the retailer were up 11.5 percent, with gasoline sales contributing 3.6 percent of the increase. The company also credits Hurricane Irene with a 2.5 to 3 percent contribution, driving particularly strong sales in the last week of August.
Sales grew particularly fast in the Southeast and in fresh food departments.
