Doctors: 13,000 take pain management courses

The Massachusetts Medical Society supports Gov. Charlie Baker's CARE Act to target opioid addiction.
Since it began offering free pain management courses in 2015, more than 13,000 individuals have taken one or more of the courses, according to the Massachusetts Medical Society.
The trade group representing physicians said it was encouraged by the usage rate.
"Continuous, data-based education of prescribers is unquestionably a critical component of what needs to be a multi-pronged attack on the epidemic, and I'm proud that we are able to and will continue to offer this resource to our peers not only in Massachusetts, but across the nation," Henry Dorkin, president of the society, said in a statement.
The society since May 2015 has been offering 19 opioid and pain management continuing medical education courses. Eight-four percent of the individuals have taken courses were physicians.
