Dismas House receives $185K for reentry initiative for those exiting incarceration

Worcester nonprofit Dismas House of Massachusetts, Inc., has received a $185,000 Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant to support its Dismas Reentry Initiative. The organization provides housing, clinical support, assistance with civil legal matters, and transportation for formerly incarcerated people.

The $185,000 grant comes from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development, according to the list of fiscal 2023 awardees on the state agency’s website.

Dismas House has three housing sites: Dismas House and the Father Brooks House in Worcester, and the 35-acre Dismas Family Farm in Oakham.

WBJ spoke with Co-Executive Director Dave McMahon in January about how the housing crisis in Worcester and other areas of need have impacted the organization.

The Community Empowerment and Reinvestment Grant Program funds projects and programming located within eligible communities that entail community-driven responses to community-defined economic opportunities, according to Mass.gov.
