The tourism agency Discover Central MA on Thursday announced a new digital initiative, the Smile City Passport, to entice area visitors to patron more businesses.
Similarly to the My Local MA campaign launched last year by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism, the passport aims to stimulate the tourism economy in Central Mass. by offering discounts and marketing local business offerings through an app available on the Discover Central MA website.
“Tourism is about more than families going on vacation, it represents a business sector that brings millions of dollars into the region,” said Monique Messier, executive director of Discover Central MA, in a press release. “With summer fast approaching and vaccination rates increasing, the public is growing more confident about visiting our many attractions.”
Discover Central MA received a $100,000 recovery grant from MOTT to finance the initiative. More than half of the funds will be used to raise awareness of the campaign through an ambassador program and advertising both in and outside of Central Massachusetts.
Throughout the summer, Discover Central MA plans to launch several more curated experiences dedicated to highlighting attractions in the region. The passport will be free to everyone and available from June to August on VisitSmileCity.com.
