A Ohio company is planning a 204-unit apartment project in Berlin as part of a 114-acre project in town that began almost nine years ago.
The nearly 12-acre property at 65 River Road West was sold to Ohio-based NRP Group for almost $3.5 million from Riverbridge North LLC, the developer of a $60 million mixed-use development in town launched in 2010.
The planned residential project -- dubbed the Portage at Riverbridge -- includes seven buildings, a clubhouse, an in-ground pool and detached garage buildings, according to NRP Group’s website.
According to Berlin Selectmen Chairwoman Christine Keefe, the 84 units proposed to be affordable as part of the project will put the bedroom community over the state’s 10 percent affordable housing requirement.
The overall Riverbridge project located behind Solomon pond Mall off of I-290 was started in 2010 on 114 acres of mostly vacant farmland.
According to Riverbridge’s website, Homeland Suites by Hilton announced in May plans for a 105-suite hotel on the development. That project broke ground in June 2018.
The development currently includes a gas station, Boundless Adventures aerial park, Village Cafe, and other small businesses.
