Developer purchases Hardwick mill for $5M cannabis project

Photo | CoStar The mill at 94 Main St. in Hardwick is proposed to be converted into a cannabis cultivation facility.

A real estate developer with plans for a cannabis establishment bought a former mill in Hardwick for $500,000 on Dec. 16, according to real estate database CoStar.

George Lang purchased the mill at 94 Main St. In April, he proposed a $5-million adaptive reuse plan at a community outreach meeting in Hardwick.

The roughly 113,000-square-foot mill is split into three buildings, one of which is slated for a 50,000- to 60,000-square-foot cannabis cultivation facility called Hardwick Mills Greenery. The other two structures will be available to be used for restaurant, office, or retail space, with the possibility of becoming a marijuana dispensary.

The four-story mill was built in 1910, according to the Hardwick assessors’ data, and was last sold in 2018 for $300,000. The Town of Hardwick assesses the property at $321,000.

Lang has commercial and condominium developments in Braintree.

This is what this town needs. The potential for jobs here is great and would benefit so many. Unfortunately this town is ran by fossils who would rather let the town die then flourish. The future is green. Hopefully this goes through and is allowed to benefit the entire community

The mills are definitely in a different class than the folks trying to destroy Meadowbrook Farm. There is no reason to destroy the center of Hardwick - one of the oldest and most beautiful towns in the state. Hardwick Mills Greenery is saving an industrial mill building and INVESTING a great deal to make that happen - while offering a percent to the town of proceeds - unlike Zen Acres who are trying to take a very beautiful 400-acre center of Hardwick and destroy it for money. There is NO payback for that. The paltry 2.5% of profits they offered does not come close to repairing the damage they will do to the town. They need to go elsewhere. As for Hardwick Mills - I do wish them the best and hope they do a good job. Read the Worcester Telegram and you will see that over 150 people showed up to tell Zen Acres to pick elsewhere. I hope they got the message - we will fight.
