After five months of daily service out of Worcester Regional Airport, JetBlue has reached its 50,000th passenger, the Queens-based company said.
“This milestone confirms that residents of the Worcester region and the Commonwealth as a whole are hungry for expanded travel opportunities and invested in the success of JetBlue,” U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Worcester) said in a statement .“JetBlue’s commitment to Worcester demonstrates that serving this market is a wise investment.”
JetBlue also reported today its results for the first quarter of 2014 , which showed its 16th consecutive quarter of profitability.
“”While first quarter results were negatively impacted by severe winter weather in the Northeast, we believe our maturing network in high-value geography together with our differentiated product and service will help JetBlue expand margins and improve shareholder returns in 2014,” JetBlue CEO Dave Barger said in a statement.
For the quarter, the company reported operating income of $41 million, down from $59 million in the first quarter of 2013. Revenues for the quarter were $1.3 billion despite an estimated loss of $50 million due to cancelled flights. It also reported net income of $4 million, down from $14 million for the same period a year ago.
