Design Center West, a furniture and home decor store, will move to Northborough center from the Solomon Pond Mall after Christmas.
The store, which spent its first 40 years at various locations in Framingham, came under new ownership in October. Its new owner, Jeremy Roussel, said he wanted to move the store to a standalone location where it could have more control over its opening hours. The Solomon Pond Mall, like lots of other shopping centers, was closed for a time early in the coronavirus pandemic as a public health precaution.
The new location, at 326 Main St. in Northborough, is expected to open Jan. 2. The Route 20 site formerly included A Diamond in the Ruff, a pet-grooming business.
Roussel said Design Center West fit well with another business he owns, Flooring Resources of New England, a wholesaling business he's run for nearly three years. Home furniture, decor and flooring businesses have done well during the pandemic, he said, as many people are at home more and deciding to make improvements around the house.
Design Center West moved to the Solomon Pond Mall in 2017 after 40 years in Framingham, including an initial location at Shoppers World.
