State officials announced plans Monday for listening sessions in Worcester, Boston and Springfield to hear feedback on the Department of Environmental Protection's regulatory reform efforts.
Agency officials indicated Monday that they have reviewed more than 95 regulations to determine whether action is required under an executive order issued by Gov. Charlie Baker.
Listening sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Worcester, Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Springfield and Thursday, Oct. 1 in Boston.
In a statement, MassDEP Commissioner Martin Suuberg said the agency was seeking public input "to make sure that our regulations are fully protective of the environment and the public health, but also clear and implementable for those who operate under these regulations."
Baker has indicated he's looking to simplify regulations that he says can be an impediment to small business growth and a competitive disadvantage against other states. Environmental, legal and liberal-minded business groups have expressed concern that the review could be used to roll back some of the state's clean water and air standards, workplace safety codes or restrictions on the use of toxic chemicals.
