The state Department of Environmental Protection says its new all-electronic system for the filing and review of waste site cleanup documents is the first in the country.
The department expects as many as 25,000 reports to be submitted electronically to its Bureau of Waste Site Cleanup this year. The system is known as eDEP. Going electronic makes it less expensive to submit files and is more secure than paper filing, the department said.
Also, citizens can use the system to more easily find information about the cleanup of oil and other hazardous materials sites across the state, and it reduces the need for developers and state officials to conduct in-person reviews at individual locations.
