DEP balks at busted basin

Fafard Real Estate and Development Corp. of Uxbridge has been hit with a $7,500 fine by the state Department of Environmental Protection for violations of the Wetlands Protection Act.

The violations occured during Fafard’s development of the Ledgemere Country subdivision off Crownshield Road in Uxbridge.

According to the DEP, a stormwater detention basin at the subdivision failed, allowing sediment into a nearby stream. DEP investigated the site in response to a request from the town of Uxbridge’s conservation commission.

Fafard complied with a DEP Unilateral Administrative Order, and will repair the detention basin and restore the damaged wetland. The company also agreed to pay the $7,500 fine.
